Inspired by my "Spotty Performance" pic [link]

Fellow Kubies may recognize this as the "ghosting" assignment. Essentially we were supposed to draw three pages of continuity in the style of an existing artist. You may or may not see the influence of the late Mike Wieringo [link] in these pages. I tried to emulate Mike because I think he's got a great, whimsical style without a lot of pointless frills and gimmicks. It's just good art that's a joy to look at, and the art world is that much weaker for having lost him. Rest in peace, Mike.



I feel like I was getting closer to Mike's art with this page. Certainly has a bit more of the energy he infused his work with. One thing I've struggled with are his deceptively simple backgrounds. They seem fairly straightforward and unimpressive, but there's still enough there to make them look natural. I'm also pretty sure he'd have had a few more of them than I used, but I was on a bit of a tight deadline...
